Get The Most Out Of Your Aeropress Coffee Maker

Coffee Coffee Roasting Livermore Prescription Roasting Templeton Truckee

Did your hipster little brother buy you an Aeropress coffee maker for Christmas and you still haven’t figured out how to use it?

We've got you covered.

There are many ways to brew with an Aeropress. We landed on a simple and effective recipe.

Essentially, we're extracting the right amount of coffee in less time than traditional brewing methods and cutting gravity out of the picture. This leads to a perfectly balanced cup, smooth and sweet, and letting in the bright fruity notes with minimal acidity.

Turn your upside down cup of coffee into a masterpiece that squeezes the best flavor out of your beans.

What you’ll need:

  • food scale (sorry, time to get nerdy if you want that perfect cup)
  • stirrer
  • aeropress
  • filter
  • 15g of medium/fine ground Prescription Roasting coffee
  • water (195-205 deg)
  • timer (or skip the timer if you can count to 60 in your head w/out getting distracted).

Step 1: Boil water.

Bring approx. 10oz water to a boil and let cool for 45-60 seconds for the optimal water temperature between 195 - 205 degrees.

Step 2: Assemble Aeropress.

Assemble Aeropress with tube upside down on top of scale, so that numbers read upside down and the plunger is below the #4.

Step 3: Grind.

Grind 15g (about 2 tablespoons) of Prescription Roasting coffee beans to medium fine (#12 setting on Baratza), pour grounds into Aeropress tube.

Step 4: Prime filter.

Once water has boiled, place filter into aeropress lid and pour water to saturate.

Step 5: Wet grounds.

Zero out scale, start timer, pour twice amount of water as grounds (30g water since we are using 15g grounds) into the tube, stir and tamp using stirrer making sure all grounds are wet. Let sit for 30 secs.

Step 6: Fill 'er up.

Pour water until scale reads 230g-240g, stir a few times, let sit for 60secs.

Step 7: Screw in lid and flip.

Screw lid onto aeropress and place mug upside down on top of aeropress, flip over swiftly, careful not to let aeropress push apart (it is under pressure).

Step 8: Plunge.

Begin to plunge, applying pressure to tube, pause briefly, then continue slowly until all liquid has been plunged and you hear a hissing sound.

Step 9: Dispose of grounds.

This is the fun part. Unscrew lid and eject the filter and “puck” of grounds into your compost or garbage.

Step 10: Enjoy!

Admire the aroma and enjoy your cup of perfectly brewed Prescription Roasting coffee, with the right balance of flavors and minimal acidity.

We hope that you're now able to grab that Aeropress with confidence and send your little brother an aspirational pic of you sipping on the fruits of that delicious gift.
